Have also been at work on the Kelly side:
* contacted the Bracebridge library to make appointment to check out any files from the years that the Kellys were apparently farming there
* updated the family tree with new information re. Robert Cooper and Ann McAleer - parents of Mary Cooper. Robert apparently from County Down in Northern Ireland according to BobbieGene's tree.
* checked census from 1871 - Family living Bracebridge - Jim's grandfather Robert living with family. All described as Presbyterian and Robert as C of E. - No idea that Kelly were NOT catholic - don't know of anyone else knew this?
* Naturalization papers for Jim says 1885 - April 27 when 24 years old
* US census of 1920 shows Jim crossed into country in 1880 and Julia's family 1881 but census of 1910 attached to mother's tree in ancestry.ca shows 1885 as the date - perhaps named their naturalization?
* from BobbieJ's work in ancestry.ca - "This is an article about Elizabeth, James' youngest sister. Pembina Pioneer Daughter, Elizabeth Kelly Flanagan Chester Fritz Library, Special Collections, University of North Dakota Grand Forks, North Dakota - Elizabeth Kelly was born June 11, 1869, at Bracebridge, Ontario, Canada. At the age of eleven years, in September, 1880, she came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Kelly, by boat over Lake Superior and from there by rail to Pembina, North Dakota, then by ox team to the to the Crystal homestead. In 1884, Elizabeth was married to Daniel Flanagan homestead. In 1884, Elizabeth was married to Daniel Flanagan...." more on the site
This girl was 15 when she married Daniel Flanagan who was nearly 20 years older than her - why?
* BobbieJene has done a lot of work on the sisters of James - still looking for info. on the death of Susanna who married George Stokes in 1877 in Bracebridge
* Jim's brother - aged 15 when died apparently lived in Nottawasag with grandparents John and Elizabeth Kelly but nit listed on the 1871 census there - only adopted daughter Elizabeth McKenzie and another son, Thomas.
Did Jim's family all come together? Check out Robert Kelly again - Jim's older brother - did he come first and the others followed?
Still want to check the boats leaving Ireland for Robert Cooper and family and for John Kelly and wife Elizabeth (No surname known)
